with their fundraising concerts & events in 2026

The Good Afternoon Choir South Somerset rehearse every Monday afternoon at Wincanton War Memorial Hall (Meeting Room) from 1.00-3.00pm.

Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Ruth Jenkins is the leader of the Good Afternoon Choir South Somerset.

Ruth graduated in Music at Birmingham University, specialising in voice and conducting the University Chamber Choir. Following a post-graduate training in Music Therapy she working in the NHS for many years before training as a teacher at Warwick University. Ruth has since worked in schools teaching music. She sings, plays piano, violin, trumpet and cornet and plays in a variety of bands and musical groups.

A warm welcome awaits any new members, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome! There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal. Come alone or with a friend – either way the Choir will be pleased to meet you. You will be joining over 1,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond!

Membership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal. The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £63 per term – this covers room and piano hire, music, admin and musician fees. You do not need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.
